There’s No Dancing Under The Lights For Me Tonight

OK, so I ran Boston’s Run To Remember today….it wasn’t pretty, but I ran. I have no idea what temperature it was (somewhere in the 70’s), but it felt like the race ran right Mile 8, Boston's Run To Remember '07 along the equator…I could have sworn I was in Key West or Cancun. I offer you this, of course, as my excuse for not “finding it deep inside” – the stuff necessary to run a sub-2:00 race.

I haven’t done the analysis yet on my Garmin watch to figure out where things went wrong, but I do know that I got to the point where my head and my legs were arguing about walking, then my stomach got involved and threatened to send something up so I just worked out a compromise that satisfied everyone by bringing the pace down a notch. But of course, once you start changing your race strategy, you never know where you’re going to end up.

I finished at a worst ever pace of 2:13, but am still looking forward to next weekend’s run in Vermont, the Covered Bridges Half, which takes place in the scenic (and cool) countryside surrounding Woodstock and Quechee. The bar’s set pretty low so this should provide me an opportunity to improve my total time. I’m still looking to finishing a race this year in less than 2 hours….though I’m pretty sure it wont be at the NYC Half in August.

The Three AmigosBy the way, props to my fellow DMC Run buds, Justin and Niels, who wore the stylish “Fund Autism Research” shirts we made. I heard that several women came up to Niels to ask him about his fundraising effort and that he walked away with the names of several…volunteers. (Note to his wife: I’m kidding! I’m kidding!) Niels finished in a blazing 1:45 and Justin finished a minute and a half behind him. Both said the heat affected them as well, which didn’t make feel any better, considering their times.

Niels Off To A Fast Start

The “Danish Destroyer” finished ahead of all of these people.

Justin's Strong Finish

Justin’s finishing sprint is so fast that the crowd is still looking for him where he used to be!

  1. My Hero! I can’t even imagine running 13 miles and to think that you are committed to running 10 of them. Maybe you NEED to be committed. (Just kidding of course) Congratulations!

  2. Keep it going bro, you will get there!

  3. Niels will get no dinner for a whole week;-)
