Hello, I am Rafa, the parent of a 7 year old Autistic Son, and the creator of this blog. I am using this blog to keep my friends up-to-date on my fundraising effort, to discuss Autism topics, and general Health issues….however this doesn’t mean I wont drift from this “charter”.
I set out to raise $50,000 in 2007 to benefit the Autism Research project being conducted at the Children’s Hospital Boston DMC. In return for the donations made, I pledged to run 10 Half Marathons in 2007, starting in May in Boston and ending in November in Portsmouth New Hampshire. For a full list of races click here. In the end, I entered in 10, completed 9 in 2007, dropped mid way out of one (injury), and ran a “make up” race in 2008 (the Miami Half Marathon, which I’ll chronicle soon). I raised over $5,000.
In 2008, I set another challenge for myself, but mental and physical fatigue set in and – even though I ran 3 half marathons – I didn’t promote my effort, so I didn’t raise any funds.
Now, I’m looking forward to forming a team to run the Reach the Beach Relay. If you’re interested in joining me, get in touch. My hope is that, with 12 people running, we’ll be able to raise $5,000 each for the same great cause.
